October 31, 20––

A thought: as the flood waters retreat, perhaps we shall see this devastation not as a tragedy, but as the grand working of The Creator’s hand, sweeping aside divisions of class and color, calling all of us to rise in a new, more just society created in His image. If I should rescue tins of food from my neighbor’s abandoned house, the better to distribute them amongst the poor, who would call it Looting? Am I not, rather, enacting the desires of the Great Will itself?

And if, to transport the tins, my neighbor’s sixty inch flatscreen television should prove an admirable pallet, is this not also Providence as well?  Casting about, I notice a small stack of tinned sardines– they will fit perfectly in that Bose amplifier.
